With two ownership changes in the last five years, we owe much to the group of cooperators that continues to stand by us. They are the strongest believers in our program. They also do the hard work on the ranch with calving, record keeping, and AI breeding. Get to know these top producers.

BAU – Red Baugh (Angus) The Baugh herd is composed of a small group of Angus females purchased from Dick Mott. Located outside of Telephone, TX, the herd is overseen by Brad Jones, former LCoC cooperator, who does all of the AI work. Clean up is done with high feed efficiency sires. Red takes great care of his cows and is sure to produce some great herd sires.

GRU - Chris & Vera Grubl (Stabilizer) Chris and Vera live near a sleepy little town in western South Dakota 11 months out of the year, but every August, Sturgis roars to life from the thunder of literally thousands of motorcycles during the annual rally. Chris and Vera has have long been involved with composite cattle going back to the Pioneer bred RX3 cattle. For the past 9 years their program has been focused on Stabilizers.

GXY - Galaxy Beef (Angus) The Steve Miller family owns and manages Galaxy Beef. Their cowherd is not large, but is for sure packed with some of the best young females in the Angus breed. Steve is not only enthusiastic about the program, but also passionate about giving his sons the opportunity and exposure of a well guided agricultural and seed stock program. Located in Northwest Missouri, the cows are wintered on corn stalks and summered on range.

HEN - Hairpin Elite Nucleus (Angus, Red Angus, Simmental & Charolais) HEN is the elite nucleus cow herd for Leachman Cattle of Colorado. The cowherd has been made up predominantly of Angus and Red Angus, but also has elite Simmental and Charolais donor females. The cowherd strives to be strictly of donor caliber females and is owned in by Tim and Shirlene Watts. The embryos selling in the back of the catalog are all owned by HEN. Tim and Shirlene Watts are based out of Billings, MT. They have been longtime cooperators and friends of Leachman’s.

LAM - Hiram Lambert (Stabilizer) Spring Creek Ranches are located in south central Nebraska near Riverton. The Lambert family started raising seedstock nearly 30 years ago with the purchase of some registered Angus females. About 10 years ago the Lamberts purchased their first composite bulls, and in the fall of 2000 they purchased Stabilizer cows from the Leachman Cow Harvest Sale.

LOH - Michael Lohmann (Angus) The Lohmann cowherd is a registered Angus base herd just outside of Lecompton, Kansas. Mike has a small herd with emphasis on quality over quantity. He has been a Leachman Cooperator since ‘00, and in that time has produced a number of quality herd bulls for the program.

NWM – Northwest Missouri State University (Charolais) NWMSU has one of the most unique Charolais herds in the country. We first stumbled on the herd when we tested progeny out of NWMSU Doc Silver. We later purchased a donor from them. Jim Husz, farm manager, has overseen the Charolais program virtually since its inception. They have focused on building a low birth weight, high marbling herd – exactly what we love in Charolais. We are excited to have them as a new cooperator herd.

PRM – Pete Mathews (Red Angus) Pete and Robin Mathews operate a Red Angus herd based in the rolling hills of Southwest Wisconsin near the town of Viola. The Mathews herd was founded some 21 years ago and is now comprised of 200 registered Red Angus cows. The Mathews family runs a feed yard, hay, and cash grain business in conjunction with the cows. They know the value of profitable genetics.

RGR – Marc and Debbie Rieger (Stabilizer) Marc and Debbie Rieger are from Plevna, a little town on the eastern most edge of Montana. Plevna is short grass, short rain fall, open country where a cow has to really work to earn a living. Marc and Debbie’s seed stock roots date back to the RX3, one of the first composites in the industry, developed by Pioneer Beef in Iowa. Since joining our Cooperator team in ‘97 their herd has become a strong maternal Stabilizer base.

RTH – Scott Rittenhouse (Stabilizer) Scott, Sasha and Daughter Lara live just outside of Springfield, Ohio. They started with purebred Gelbvieh cattle and began purchasing Leachman angus and stabilizer bulls several years ago to increase carcass quality. With a large portion of the calves going to feedlots it is important the cattle performed well for the feeders. Today the focus of the cow herd is to maintain problem free cattle that with put dollars back into your wallet.

SHG - Bob Shugert & Steve Harris (Angus and Stabilizer) Bob Shugert and Steve & Stephanie Harris live outside of Lore City, Ohio and are officially our eastern most Cooperators. Their large combined herd is comprised of mostly Angus and Angus Hybrids (Simmental and Gelbvieh) that find their way back into our Stabilizer program. Bob has been cooperating with us since the fall of ‘98. The Shugert ranch, not far from the birthplace of Leland and Lester Leachman, is some of the best cow country in America.

EEC -Emerald Earth Cattle Co. (Red Angus) Jo and Gina Jewison began a small seedstock operation in the Emerald Hills of southwest Wisconsin in 2008. They purchased 60 Red Angus heifers from former LCoC cooperator, Shamrock Nook, as a foundation herd. The calves in the 2010 sale are from their first calf crop.

TES - Rob Tessari (Stabilizer) The Tessari ranch is located in Babb, Montana, just off the east slopes of Glacier National Park. The Tessaris have the oldest and largest nucleus of Stabilizer cows in the United States. The entire herd traces directly back to the Vinton herd of Nebraska. The Tessari family first cooperated bulls for the 1999 bull sale. This herd endures some the harshest environment imaginable including Grizzly Bears and other forms of predatory wildlife and extended winter. With the recent departure of long time manager Berry Anderson, Rick Weeks has assumed the day to day management. The ranch continues to operate in a low cost, low overhead, commercial state of mind, just like the cattle are designed to do.

TPL – Top Line Cattle (Angus) Top Line is a partnership owned by Mike Browning and Family. Top Line has been in the Red Angus business in California for over ten years. In the Spring of 2006, Top Line agreed to purchase the entire Mott Angus herd. They are now one of the most significant Angus breeders in the country – especially for the traits that we think are important! Leachman hosts a west coast sale each October at Top Line’s headquarters in Middletown, CA.

TRN - Leland and Karen Turner (Red Angus) Leland and Karen Turner have built a herd of high maternal Red Angus cattle outside of Gillette, Wyoming. Their harsh range conditions dictate that they calve later than average. Because of this, most of their cattle sell Private Treaty later in the spring and fall.

WIL –Wilson Farms (Angus & Stabilizer) & GIL – Gilbrea Farms: Andrew (Wilson Farms) and Bob (Gilbrea Farms) Wilson are neighbors, but not brothers. They have cumulatively been in business over 25 years. Starting with Angus base herds, they have used top Simmental and hybrid genetics. Many of their sires trace back to LCoC bloodlines. Both herds have recorded data with BIO for years. We will use this herd to source high $Profit outcross genetics from Canada.

WLF – Wolfinger Farms (Stabilizer) Wolfinger Farms is a third generation farm that is run by Robert, Jake and Andy Wolfinger. They are farmer/feeders and a cow/calf operators located in Lancaster, Ohio. Four years ago they found Leachman genetics to be superior in their feedlot. They then began intensively using the Leachman crossbreeding program to maximize feedlot performance while at the same time maintaining a maternal cow herd to produce top quality Leachman genetics.
